This safety razor is in excellent condition for its age. It is a beautiful vintage model, a three-piece long-screw design, manufactured in France by Leresche for the Le Coq brand. Made from chrome-plated brass, it has one notable feature: it has a recess in the handle into which a spring can be inserted, thereby transforming it into an adjustable razor! However, no spring is included.
This razor wasn’t originally sold with a spring, but was a model made from leftover parts from a previous model. This theory is also supported by the presence of a notch on the cover (as on a Licence Palmer or a Merkur Progress), which you align with the notch on the baseplate to ensure the setting always remains the same. However, in this case, the baseplate has no notch! This is not a fault or an oversight; all closed-comb Le Coq razors like this one share this same feature.
The razor weighs 70 g and measures 7.5 cm. It uses standard double-edged safety blades. Don’t be fooled by the ‘closed comb’ – it’s actually quite an aggressive razor! Its design is rather unusual, with a wide gap, a very domed cover and a very flat guard plate.
Please note: there are a few bubbles in the plating on the head, but nothing serious. Please inspect all pictures.
