Antique shaving accessory, including a shaving brush and a burner for heating shaving water.

The Prometheus lamp was patented by WH Williams in 1899.

A very unusual little brass shaving accessory – a “Prometheus” shaving lamp, patented by W.H. Williams in 1899.

The base opens to reveal an alcohol burner – the top opens to reveal a boar’s hair shaving brush. Fill the tube with water, replace the shaving brush, light up the burner and insert it into the tube. The burner heats the water, providing a warm shaving brush for the shaving soap.

Top with shell-shaped ornament stamped “W. H. WILLIAMS’S PATENT” and on the reverse “PROMETHEUS SHAVING LAMP”.

Dimensions: 18 x 5 cm approx.
