The cup is marked “Made in Bavaria” and comes with a matching saucer. Around the rim, in gold Gothic lettering, is the inscription: “A Present from Bristol”. This type of cup is typical of the Victorian era (late 19th century) and was often given as a souvenir gift from a trip.
